Lusigny sur Ouche:

Lusigny is a picturesque, stone built village, featuring several lavoirs (washhouses) lying in the upper part of the beautiful Ouche valley, approximately 17 kilometres ( 10 miles) north west of Beaune. The village has a private chateaux, an auberge and riverside park. It is surrounded by wooded hills and meadows which contain a wealth of wild life. There are a variety of interesting walks that can be taken from the house. For the more energetic there are many cycling routes.

Bligny sur Ouche is a small market town two kilometres down the valley and within easy walking distance. The facilities include; small supermarkets, banks, a bakery, a chemist, a butcher, newsagent/gift shop, hotels and restaurants. There is also a limited range of tourist information and a small market on Wednesday mornings. In the summer a steam railway provides trips down the valley.

Beaune, the historic capital of the Burgundy wine trade, is situated in the heart of the wine growing areas of the Soane valley with Nuits St. George to the north and Pommard to the south. There are many Caves (Wine cellars) that offer wine tasting. These can also be found in the small villages that surround the area in the Cote d'Or. The walled town also has the Hotel Dieu (a medieval hospital) with its famous tiled roof. Here are a wide range of facilities; museums, restaurants, shops and supermarkets.

Within easy reach of Lusigny is the spectacular hilltop village of Chateauneuf with its imposing castle. It over looks the Canal de Bougogne which is largely used for leisure. A drive along the canalside in the Valley d' Ouche includes many small villages and auberges.

Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, is about forty minutes drive to the north. Here are museums, art galleries and many old palaces with spectacular roofs. Within easy driving distance for day trips are; Cluny famous for the remains of its medieval abbey, music festival and home of the French National Stud, Vezelay a stopping place for pilgrims on the way to Spain and the Abbey of Fontenay a World Heritage site. The walled towns of Semur and Autun with its Roman remains can also be visited.
